In a Mood... for Novelties

In a Mood... for Novelties
Is it still called kitsch if it’s cool? We often say living spaces should reflect your personality and style, and we love how midcentury modern design allows for eclectic expression, so why not deepen this with a little novelty here and there? Maybe you want to start your day with a prayer to patron saints Johnny, Moira, David, and Alexis Rose. Perhaps a spritz of sanitizer post-everything-you-touch could remind you to… stop touching everything! Or maybe, you need a reminder that tequila is your friend. Whatever it is, let’s get through the pandemic and quarantine with a laugh at home.

Get Comfy on Silverlake

Get Comfy on Silverlake
In any spare moment to oneself, nothing really beats just collapsing onto the couch and melting into the cushions. Sure, it can be hard to get up and get motivated again, but after a long day or even just for a quick break, it’s one of the most relaxing things to do at home… other than sleep. (Though we’re not against sleeping on couches, either). Gus* Modern’s Silverlake sofas and sectionals have been one of touchGOODS’ hottest items recently and, once you take a seat, it’s easy to see why.

Reflecting on Midcentury Modern Design

Reflecting on Midcentury Modern Design
The art of interior design is not purely aesthetic. It’s a representation of an individual’s expression of themselves. Style is highly personal when it comes to fashion, and the same can be said for one’s home. What’s changed in design over the years is the marriage of form and function, and highlighting these different expressions. The particular beauty of midcentury modern is that it is eclectic – mix, match, create, define, reimagine, reminisce. This enduring style is the heart of touchGOODS, and we break down the varying aspects of this look within the home.

Elevate Your Summer Staycation

Elevate Your Summer Staycation

We’re taking tropical vacations and extended weekends out of town off of our summer calendars this year. With warming temperatures and beach days on the East End of Long Island on the horizon, why not make the backyard or patio your destination? Extend your interiors to the outdoors with thoughtfully designed spaces that make you feel far away without ever having to leave home.

Interior design theories can easily be applied to the exterior. You want a space that is cohesive and inviting, lending itself to the idea of a summer vacation where time simply passes. In this living space, greenery is of course key. For covered spaces, Hip Haven retro planters in various colors and sizes can be staggered with native and seasonal plants at different heights, creating a bit of that wild look you may find when exploring the outdoors. Our own rustic tribal pattern vases in natural colors add detail to your plantings, and work well in a similar design concept.

Sit back and relax with an outdoor living room-style space. If you prefer something a bit more contemporary, Bend Goods’ wireframe chairs and side tables can be customized with vegan leather pads in black and white or upholstered pads ranging from a bold red to bright teal to eye-catching yellow. For those opting for a natural look, Sika Design – which specializes in sustainable handmade furnishings – has a number of seating options from three-seat sofas to nest chairs to dining chairs. Pair these together in a way that works best for the size of your outdoor space and how you intend to use it, whether that be a solo afternoon or an early evening gathering.

We’ll never say no to a good rug to pull a space together, especially outdoors. Use a similar concept you would when designing your living room. Have a focal point with an outdoor coffee table (perhaps add a tabletop planter), add seating and outdoor accents to further design this space. With summer on the East End often associated with entertaining, multipurpose pieces like Kenian’s rattan planter/party bucket is perfect for your gatherings, with 10 people or less, of course.

All you need to add now is some rosé from a local Hamptons or North Fork vineyard, beer from your favorite brewery, produce and provisions from area farms and purveyors, and you have long summer weekends just steps from your door.
