We’re taking tropical vacations and extended weekends out of town off of our summer calendars this year. With warming temperatures and beach days on the East End of Long Island on the horizon, why not make the backyard or patio your destination? Extend your interiors to the outdoors with thoughtfully designed spaces that make you feel far away without ever having to leave home.
Interior design theories can easily be applied to the exterior. You want a space that is cohesive and inviting, lending itself to the idea of a summer vacation where time simply passes. In this living space, greenery is of course key. For covered spaces, Hip Haven retro planters in various colors and sizes can be staggered with native and seasonal plants at different heights, creating a bit of that wild look you may find when exploring the outdoors. We’ll never say no to a good rug to pull a space together, especially outdoors. Use a similar concept you would when designing your living room. Have a focal point with an outdoor coffee table (perhaps add a tabletop planter), add seating and outdoor accents to further design this space. All you need to add now is some rosé from a local Hamptons or North Fork vineyard, beer from your favorite brewery, produce and provisions from area farms and purveyors, and you have long summer weekends just steps from your door.
